LSU coach Wade agreed to revised deal before reinstatement

Recently reinstated LSU coach Will Wade agreed to an amended contract on April 14 that allows the school to fire him without cause if he is found to have committed major violations, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.Wade also agreed not to sue LSU if he is fired with cause, in the revised contract he signed two days before the school reinstated him.Wade was suspended for more than five weeks after he refused to speak with university officials amid scrutiny of a reported FBI wiretap capturing the coach talking about an offer to then-recruit Javonte Smart. In the amended deal, Wade also agreed to forfeit a $250,000 performance bonus for the just-concluded season. The Tigers went 28-7 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament with Tony Benford serving as coach for the final five games.”This amendment to Will Wade’s contract represents a strong commitment by Coach Wade to the integrity of the institution and to his continued cooperation in partnership with LSU,” Jason Droddy, LSU’s interim vice president for strategic communications, said in a statement on Wednesday. “We are pleased we were able to come to this agreement as we move forward in this process.”The revised deal allows LSU to dismiss Wade for violations classified as Level I or Level II.Wade initially refused to speak to LSU officials about the allegations involving Smart or his relationship with agent runner Christian Dawkins.
