National Signing Day notebook: QB Taggart Jr. to play for dad at FAU

Quarterback Willie Taggart Jr. won’t have to invest too much time getting to know his collegiate football coach.Florida Atlantic added Taggart Jr. on Wednesday on National Signing Day, sealing the commitment he made to the Owls last month. That means he’ll play for his father, Willie Taggart, who was hired in December to replace Lane Kiffin, who departed for Ole Miss. The older Taggart was fired in November following just 21 games (9-12) over two seasons with Florida State.Taggart Jr. helped Florida State University High School in Tallahassee reach the state Class 3A championship game after recording 30 total touchdowns and rolling up nearly 3,100 combined rushing and passing yards.He is a three-star prospect who also received offers from Appalachian State and Florida State.–Offensive tackle Broderick Jones, a five-star prospect from Lithonia, Ga., signed with Georgia. Jones had been committed to the school since April 2018.”I am a Georgia boy,” the 6-foot-5 Jones said, per 247Sports. “It is the brand. I wanted to be close to home so my family could support me. That was one of the biggest factors. Go Dawgs!”
